Happy to present the very first single from the band outfit “Martin & The New Songrise.”

The lyric to “Bad Thing Go,” co-written by Martin with Søren Skov, Linda Andrews, revolves around the darker sides of romantic love, when relationships go awry from disrespect and abuse of trust.

However, you could hear this song even as a comment on world affairs, when nations struggle to make themselves independent of partners that have turned bad, making the ongoing relationship strained or even toxic.

In the lyric, we move from being strapped to the carnival ride following a head over heels love affair (“we set this thing in motion / I’m gonna ride this rollercoaster down”) to the toxicity of having fallen in love with a player (“I drank from your well, babe / you’re in my marrow and in my bone”), yet the singer finds himself unable to let a bad thing go.

“Bad Thing Go” uses a first-person lens to bring the listener at eye-level with the fallout of bad love. The instrumentation on “Bad Thing Go” signals Motown and Muscle Shoals influences, yet the track sits squarely in Chris Stapleton or Leon Russell territory, featuring vocals which incorporate both a sensitive folksy vibe but also fiery rock- and blues-infused vocal work.

Martin who fronts the new outfit Martin & The New Songrise, is a seasoned singer and songwriter with several albums out in his own name, and The New Songrise is a band with alternating personnel that has come together to record a series albums drawing on this work. “Bad Thing Go” is the 1st single from their first album installment entitled “Clouds & Silver Linings” – which will be released June 5, 2026.

Been to the preacher, baby / he says I’m way more lost than found / High on your poison / I’m running my soul into the ground

It’s me and my high hopes / Just can’t let a bad thing go / Can’t let a Bad Thing Go…
